Psalm 100:1

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.

Serve the Lord with gladness:

come before his presence with singing.

Motivate is defined as, stimulate to action; provide with an incentive or motive. There are three kinds of motivation: reward, punishment, and attitude. When we exercise because we perceive the health benefits, we do so for reward. When we observe the speed limit because we don’t want a ticket, we do so to escape punishment of the fine. Sometimes motivation is internal and sometimes the motivation is external.

The third motivator is attitude. The Oxford dictionary defines attitude as, a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person's behavior. Attitude is made up in the mind and heart. The Bible speaks to that point in Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…

I happened to do a Google search for the word “attitude,” and found many motivational thoughts, blogs, and books available for investigation. I also happened to click on images, for the word attitude. There are literally hundreds of visually stimulating images conveying various aspects of attitude. One of the best was one of the briefest, “Attitude is everything!”

There was also a great quote from Charles Swindoll. “The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company…a church…a home. The remarkable thing is, we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past…we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is plan on the one thing we have, and that is our attitude…I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you…we are in charge of our attitudes.”

Thank you for being here today. It is obvious that your motivation for being here today is related to your attitude. Your service to the Lord is motivated by your love for Him. “Serve the Lord with gladness…”

It is a great joy serving as your Minister of Music.
